Frown Lines

Frown Lines are caused by contraction of the Procerus, Corrugator and Depressor Supercilia muscles, the more these muscles are used, the stronger they get and can cause permanent creases in the skin.

Why Do I Look Angry All The Time, Even When I Am Not?

The frown muscles are, in some people, exercised frequently through habit.

The muscles can go in to spasm and stay contracted all of the time, similarly to having a toned muscle anywhere else in the body. This causes a bulge where the muscles are clearly visible. The skin can also crack and break under the strain of the muscle contraction, which can cause a visible line, the same as when you are frowning, but that is visible all the time.

In very occasional cases, the fat under the skin can be lost – just like fat anywhere else due to exercise of the muscles, and this creates a depression or hollow in the center of the forehead.

What Treatments Can Help?

There are a number of treatments that can help with your Frown Lines, including Dermal Filler to fill in the crease/crack, or Anti-Wrinkle Injections such as Botox® which is a prescribed injectable medicine used to relax the muscle.
