Tummy Tuck for Men
Removing excess fat and loose skin from the tummy area
Tummy Tuck for men, also known as male Abdominoplasty, is a surgical operation used to remove excess fat and loose skin from the tummy area.
In some cases, the surgeon can also restore weakened stomach muscles at the same time.

Most men report a high satisfaction rate from both Full and Mini Tummy Tuck procedures, as it gives them a tighter, more defined abdomen area.
This results in men being more body confident.
There are two types of Tummy Tuck, either a full Tummy Tuck where the incision is made from hip to hip, or a partial (or mini) Tummy Tuck where smaller incisions are made.
Before the male tumy tuck procedure
You will meet with your Surgeon and Surgical Coordinator before your surgery which will help you to feel comfortable and safe, and allow you to ask as many questions as you like! During your initial consultation, you will be assessed by our plastic surgeon to see your suitability for the procedure and to discuss the possible risks and complications. You will have a second consultation with our surgeon. The Surgeon will confirm what is expected and you will then be asked to sign a patient consent form.
Once all agreed, you will need to attend a pre-operative assessment between 2-5 weeks prior to your surgery. This is where you will come and meet us again to go through your medical history, take your measurements (height, weight, BMI) and perform a Bloods and MRSA test to ensure you are fit for surgery.
It is also important that you stop smoking at least 4 weeks before your surgery and continue without smoking for 4 weeks afterwards.
During the procedure
Both types of Tummy Tuck (full or mini) are performed under a General Anaesthetic, meaning you will be put to sleep. The skin and fat of the lower tummy are then detached from the abdominal muscles and the skin is then stretched down and any excess removed.
Your belly button can also be moved to fit the new abdominal structure if required, and a small area of the tummy muscles can be tightened. Your Surgeon may then use Liposuction [HYPERLINK] to give the stomach definition, again, if this is required. At the end of the main surgery, the tummy “flap” is then stitched back into place.
A mini male tummy tuck:
- Usually it takes up to 2 hours.
- Uses an incision that is usually a lot smaller.
- Is more suitable for people that have less fat and skin to be removed.
- Usually takes an hour, so you will be able to return home on the same day.
- Is available at both our flagship Nottingham premises and our London clinic.
A full male tummy tuck:
- Takes between two and three hours.
- Uses an incision that runs from hip to hip, usually near your bikini line.
After the procedure
You will need between 2-3 weeks off work (depending on the type of work you do). We advise against any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 6-weeks afterwards, and you will need to wear a supporting garment during these 6-weeks too (daytime and night-time). This can be uncomfortable as it’s a fitted garment designed to give you support, as well as reduce the risk of other complications such as bruising and swelling.

FAQs
What are the side effects and risks?
Any abdominal surgery, such as a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is a substantial procedure and does involve an element of risk. You also need to make sure you set realistic expectations with your Surgeon to ensure you are more likely to be satisfied with the results, whether you’re having a Mini Tummy Tuck or Full Tummy Tuck. In general terms, for healthy, non-smoking patients with few risk factors, this procedure has a low rate of serious complications in expert hands.
What is the Male Tummy Tuck procedure used for?
The Abdominoplasty procedure is suitable for any man that is of a healthy weight, but unfortunately has excess skin and fat around their abdomen (tummy).
Why do men normally have this procedure?
There are a few reasons why you might have excess skin and fat around your tummy- the most common being if you have lost a considerable amount of weight. Abdominoplasty, also known as a Tummy Tuck, is designed to give you some confidence back by improving the appearance of your stomach.
Is a Men's Tummy Tuck permanent?
Yes, providing you maintain a stable weight and follow all the aftercare treatments from your surgeon, your results should be permanent.
I am overweight. Can I have a Tummy Tuck?
This procedure is not ideal for men who are currently overweight and is definitely not a “quick fix”. You would get better, longer-lasting results if you lose the weight first and consider a Tummy Tuck to remove excess skin and fat afterwards. We are the weight loss and fat reduction specialists at Zenith Cosmetic Clinics so have lots of other options that might help you! You can visit [Excess Belly Fat) our page on Excess Belly Fat for more information.
Can I look after my small children following the operation?
You will need to have full-time help with small children for the first few weeks after your procedure. Lifting a child, or any significant weight, after your surgery puts you at risk of developing complications and needing further procedures. You should be able to do most of your other day-to-day tasks such as driving, cooking, and shopping after the first 2 or 3 weeks.
