liposuction for men

This treatment may also be known as “Abdominal Etching” when done to the abdomen.

However, this technique can be used to enhance other muscle definition such as the chest, back, arms, legs and many other areas.

How Does This Differ to Standard Liposuction?

Standard Liposuction removes the deep fat pads under the fascia to achieve basic body contouring or reshaping and is the most commonly used type of Liposuction.

High Definition Liposuction is a modern and more advanced procedure that removes the deep fat as well as specific subcutaneous areas to achieve stronger and more visible definitions whilst enhancing the contour of the underlying muscle. This can also be combined with Lipofilling (Fat Transfer)  to some muscles to further increase the volume.

What Areas Are Most Commonly Treated?

High Definition Liposuction is most commonly used to treat the following areas, and to create and enhance the following muscles:

  • Abdomen, also known as Abdominal Etching (six-packs, full abs, serratus anterior)
  • 360 abdomen and back (flanks, latissimus dorsi, gluteal, full abs, six packs, serratus anterior)
  • Chest (pecs)
  • Arms (deltoids)
  • Calves

The Advantages and Disadvantages of High Definition-Liposuction

The main advantages and benefits of High Definition Liposuction (HD-LS) is achieving an enhancement in the muscle shape and significantly sharper definition compared to the standard Liposuction.

However, there also a few limitations to this technique such as:

  • It cannot be combined with skin tightening procedures such as Tummy Tuck (abdominoplasty)
  • It is more invasive and therefore needs deeper anaesthetic and has longer down-time following the procedure
  • It can be more expensive than standard Liposuction because it’s a more complex procedure and requires a longer operation time with a Surgeon that has specific training and experience

Suitability for High Definition Liposuction

  • Suitable for non-smokers
  • You should be medically fit to undergo the anaesthetic and ensure you recover from surgery
  • Body weight: you shouldn’t be too slim or too heavy. The best outcome is achieved with those individuals with Body Mass Index (BMI) between 20 – 28, this will be measured during your initial consultation.
  • You must have a regular gym routine with weights and cardio of at least 3-4 days a week.

Before Your Procedure (new section)

You will meet with your specific Surgeon and allocated Patient Coordinator a number of times before your surgery to assess your suitability for the procedure, and to discuss the possible risks and complications. The Surgeon will confirm what is expected and you will sign a patient consent form once you are happy and be taken through all the details of your procedure.

You will need to attend a Pre-Operative Assessment between 2-5 weeks prior to your surgery date. This is where you will come and meet either our Registered General Nurse or Senior Doctor and they will go through your medical history, take your measurements (height, weight, BMI) and perform a blood and MRSA test to ensure you are fit for surgery!

It is also important that you stop smoking at least 4-weeks before your surgery and continue without smoking for 4 weeks afterwards. (Most smokers will be unsuitable for this treatment as smoking will have damaged the skin.
