Big Ears (Macrotia)
Ears normally grow to a certain size, in some cases some ears can exceed the average size. There is a condition which is called Macrotia, which is where the ear grows more than expected.
Causes
This is a genetic condition that people are born with.

FAQ’s
How much does it cost to have Otoplasty?
Our Otoplasty service starts at just £3,500, however the final figure depends on your circumstances and your final goal.
Are there any risks?
As with any surgery there are risks but generally complications are infrequent and minor.
These can include:
- Blood collecting beneath the skin of the ear which may need to be drained.
- Infection
- Scarring
- Bruising
- Cartilage is a living tissue and it may alter its shape over time. Very occasionally, a second operation may be required to refine your results.
- The ear could return to its pre-surgery position although this is extremely rare.
How long will this procedure last for?
Otoplasty, once settled, is expected to be long term unless there is some trauma or pulling of the ears to cause disruption of stitches. We will run through the longevity of this procedure, in more detail, in one of your consultations.
Is the big ear surgery painful?
Not at all, the procedure itself is performed under a General Anaesthetic so there is absolutely no pain, only slight soreness during healing.
Am I suitable for this procedure?
As long as you meet this criterion, the Otoplasty procedure is suitable for anyone who requires their ears reshaping. Despite Ear Pinning surgery being a popular treatment for children and young adults, here at Zenith Cosmetic Clinics we do not treat anyone who is under the age of 18.
How long will I be at the clinic?
Expect to be in the clinic for 2-3 hours to allow for waking up and having a cup of tea after your surgery.
