What is Acne?

Acne is caused by overproduction of Sebum in the Sebaceous Glands, along with infection by the bacteria P. Acnes (Propionibacterium Acnes) and the inflammation that follows. Unfortunately this causes damage to the skin that the immune system is trying to protect, and also causes scarring.

Acne is described depending on its appearance but is classified as mild, moderate or severe. Moderate and severe patients are assessed by a doctor and a treatment plan put in place, unless referral is made to a dermatologist.

Treatments for Acne

Some of the Acne Treatments that we use here at Zenith Cosmetic Clinics are:

• Fractora
  In the vast majority of cases can control acne and reduce even troublesome hormonal-cyclical acne around the chin. It is also one of the only devices treatment that can treat both active acne and at the same time improve acne scarring at the same time. Fractora can also reduce even troublesome hormonal-cyclical acne around the chin. There is approximately 2-5 days of redness after the treatment. Some people choose to stay home for 4-5 days. One treatment per month for 6 months gives excellent results in the vast majority.
• Morpheus 8 
  This Morpheus 8 treatment is also one of the very few procedures that is used to treat acne and acne scarring in a similar way to Fractora above.
• Cutera Laser Genesis
  This very effective laser kills the P.Acnes bacteria and calms the acne down, however, it does not treat acne scarring. You can see our page on Acne Scarring [HYPERLINK] more information.
• Dermalux™ LED Phototherapy
  The LED light very gently helps to reduce acne and is often used along with one of the other treatments. The Dermalux™ LED Blue light is particularly good for its anti-bacterial properties and tackling oily skin.
• Chemical Peels
  There are a variety of Chemical Peels and these can gently exfoliate and unclog pores, allowing the skin to calm down and can be very useful alongside other options.
