Skin lesions are lumps that form beneath the skin, or growths that form on the skin. They generally have a different colour and texture to the surrounding skin and may be raised above the skin surface. Skin lesions are very common; some more than others.
Besides warts, the causes of most skin lesions are still not fully understood. Hereditary genetics and genetic disorders could play a role, as well as localized damage to the skin, or infections and diseases.
At our Nottingham clinic, people generally opt for skin lesion removal for cosmetic reasons. Most skin lesions are completely harmless and do not pose a threat to your health. However, many people are self-conscious of lesions on their skin, especially if they are not easily concealed.
Sometimes, skin lesions can form in a place where they cause discomfort, restricting movement; or they can catch on clothing and jewellery, causing them to bleed.
Moles can turn malignant (cancerous) in some cases. If you notice a change in the size, shape, colour, or general appearance of your mole, you should get it checked out by a doctor. If they suspect that your mole has developed melanoma skin cancer, they will refer you to a specialist for mole removal surgery.
Liquid gas is used to freeze skin lesions on the skin surface, causing them to fall away.
Skin lesions are cut away with a small blade or surgical scissors. Surgery can be the best method of removal for lesions with a deeper root in the skin.
This removal technique uses radiosurgery to quickly and safely remove moles and other skin lesions with little to no scarring.
Electricity is used to remove lesions by heating a needle and placing it against the lesion to burn away the cells. This is a fairly common wart removal technique.
Before the Procedure
Your first step for skin lesion removal at Zenith Nottingham will be to book an initial consultation with us. You will have the chance to discuss your desired results with one of our dermatologists and get the answers to questions you may have. Together, we will decide on a treatment that best suits you.
Skin lesion removal is performed using a local anaesthetic so that you don’t feel a thing. At Zenith, we use CO2 lasers or radiosurgery to treat skin lesions. The procedure takes around 15-20 minutes.
Due to the nature of skin lesion removal, results will be immediate, though warts sometimes require further treatment sessions. Removing skin lesions does not usually leave visible scars. Scars that do appear will be small and will fade with time.
Most patients can return to work and normal activities the following day. We will give you detailed aftercare advice after the treatment, but full recovery is estimated at four weeks. The recovery period will depend on the type and size of lesion removed. Skin lesion removal should not be painful and any discomfort you do experience, such as bruising and swelling, can be managed with standard pain medication.
Prices range from £450 for laser removal, however, because every skin lesion is unique, prices will vary from patient to patient. Some skin lesions will be more difficult to remove than others depending on their size and location on the body. This is something that you can discuss during your consultation with us.
At Zenith, we accept credit, debit, cash, or bank transfer, but have also developed Zenith Finance as a way to split the cost into monthly payments, of which we offer 6 months interest free.
