What is Vaser Liposuction?
Vaser is a less invasive alternative to traditional Liposuction, with reduced risks as compared to major invasive surgery. The Vaser Lipo System has become the method of choice in body sculpting. What distinguishes this technique is its ability to differentiate body fat from other tissues such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues, thereby only targeting and eliminating fatty deposits.
What is Vaser Liposuction used for?
Vaser Lipo is ideal to remove significant amounts of fat and for precise body sculpting. It gives smooth and predictable results, whilst being gentle and minimally invasive. It causes minimal pain and bruising and scarring. It is not, however, a weight loss treatment and should not be used as one.
Who is Vaser Liposuction suitable for?
Vaser Lipo is suitable for both men and women and can treat nearly all areas of the body including Abdomen, Waist, Back, Thighs, Arms, Buttocks, Chest, Neck, Chin, Knees, Ankles and Breasts. Those with skin that's in good condition are more likely to be satisfied with the results (i.e., skin that's fairly elastic with minimal stretch marks).
What happens during the procedure?
Vaser can be performed under twilight sedation (a superficial sleep state), or general anaesthetic. The procedure takes between 1 to 3 hours depending on the size of the area being treated.
A small probe delivers ultrasonic vibrations to the treatment area which works to gently emulsify the fatty tissue which is then removed by a small cannula or is excreted naturally from the body. By removing only the fat, while leaving the other tissues intact, your skin retracts smoothly and evenly after the procedure. This minimises discomfort and bruising and promotes rapid healing and recovery.
What are the side effects or risks?
Initial numbness, minor bruising and general tenderness may occur, but these side effects should disappear within a week.
General risks associated with any type of surgery and anaesthetic should also be considered, which will be discussed at length during your consultation.
What results can I expect from Vaser Liposuction?
Results can often be seen immediately, although final results will become visible within a month. Vaser liposuction has a very high patient satisfaction rate, but you must bear in mind that your results will not be long lasting unless you continue to lead a healthy lifestyle post-procedure.
Before your procedure
You will meet with your surgeon and patient coordinator before your surgery to assess your suitability for the procedure and to discuss the possible risks and complications. The surgeon will confirm what is expected and you will sign a patient consent form.
You will need to attend a pre-operative assessment between 2-5 weeks prior to your surgery. This is where you will come and meet either our senior nurse or doctor and they will go though your medical history, take your measurements - (height, weight, BMI), and perform a blood and MRSA test to ensure you are fit for surgery.
At Zenith Cosmetic Clinics, our patients are at the heart of everything we do. Having a surgical procedure is an extremely personal choice and only you can make the decision to go ahead. We encourage you to take away all of the information, digest it and spend some time really thinking about whether you want to go ahead with the procedure. We are there at every step to answer your questions and offer advice - we want you to be happy with your decision and delighted with your results.
On the day of your surgery, your surgeon may draw on your body to confirm the exact positioning of any incisions and to guide him during your procedure.
It is important that you stop smoking at least four weeks before your surgery and for four weeks afterwards.
After your Vaser treatment you will be able to return home within a few hours following the procedure. In order to ensure full liposuction recovery, you will then need between 7-10 days off work depending on your occupation. No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 6 weeks post op, and you may need to wear a garment for 6 weeks post op. This can be uncomfortable as it’s like wearing a corset with padding. You will have a series of check ups scheduled in to ensure rapid and effective recovery.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Vaser lipo and regular lipo?
Vaser lipo breaks down the fatty tissue using ultrasound. As a result, the liquid can then be easily drained away. The advantage of using Vaser lipo is that bruising and swelling is much lower due to the less invasive methodology.
How much weight can I lose?
This depends on several factors, including the number and size of the areas being treated.
Will I gain weight after the procedure?
After undergoing any sort of surgery, a small amount of weight gain is possible due to inflammation and blood vessels leaking into the surrounding tissue. Because fluid is added to the body while performing Vaser (to improve the efficiency of the treatment), it will take a few days for this liquid to naturally make its way out of the body. This is normal however, and by the time your body has fully recovered, your weight should be noticeably lower than it was prior to treatment.
Can I maximise the effect of Vaser lipo?
While Vaser lipo can result in substantial weight-loss, it is not a substitute for living healthily. It is therefore important that both before and after the procedure, you get into a habit of eating good food and exercising. This will ensure that your body is capable of responding well to the treatment and will speed post-op recovery. Continuing to lead a healthy lifestyle afterwards will help prevent weight gain.
What is Vaser HD?
Vaser HD refers to a specific technique developed by Dr Alfredo Hoyos in Columbia. The treatment is focussed on patients who want that very defined look on their abs/chest/arms/shoulders and back. As the name suggests it uses the Vaser technology. Primarily designed for those with good skin, few if any stretchmarks and a good gym routine that are struggling to get abs to show despite working hard. With Vaser high definition liposculpting we chisel and sculpt the fatty tissue down to reveal each and every individual muscle. It will bring out you abs, pectorals, shoulders and in women the lower back waist and everything that matters in improving your silhouette and muscle definition.
Who Qualifies for Vaser HD?
Patients with good skin tone who have already tried their best with constant diet and exercise to get a sculpted, highly defined appearance, but just cannot seem to get there.
