What is the Fraxel laser?
The Fraxel laser is a handheld device that sends laser light energy below the surface of your skin to stimulate your body's natural production of collagen. This in turn rejuvenates the cells and smoothes the skin on the surface.
What is the procedure used for?
The Fraxel laser is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin pigmentation, sun damage, acne and stretch marks. It can also be used to treat raised surgical scars while they are still red.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
Fraxel is most suitable for anyone over 18 that has fairer skin.
What happens during the procedure?
- "Smart scanning" hand piece ensures consistency and safety as it moves over your skin. This ensures it only targets problem areas.
- Fractional lasers penetrate top skin layers
- Fraxel light energy stimulates collagen, and resurfaces the top skin layer
After the procedure, your skin's natural rejuvenation process kicks in to smooth wrinkles and scars by stimulating collagen.
What are the side effects or risks?
- Blisters can occur
- Dark patches are possible on Asian skin
What results can I typically expect?
Most patients will be able to see and feel the results in one month, however optimal improvement is usually visible 8-9 months after the treatment. This timeframe allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen and ealstin, and viable healthy skin cell growth.
For optimum results, we recommend 1-5 Fraxel treatments.
Most Fraxel patients report the sensation of a "light sunburn" immediately after treatment. You will need to apply vaseline to the area/s until they are healed.
