What is Aqualyx?
Aqualyx is deoxycholic acid solution that is injected into your body to dissolve fat, think of it as a weight loss injection. The solution is similar to what your body naturally produces in your gut to break down fats and other substances. The treatment can only be performed by a doctor or surgeon who has been trained in this advanced treatment.
What is the procedure used for?
It's used to remove areas of stubborn fat - you can think of it as non-surgical liposuction, and can be referred to as a ‘weight loss’ injection. It's less invasive than surgery and offers less downtime, making it a popular option for many.
Who are Aqualyx® Weight Loss Injections suitable for?
It is suitable for patients who do not want the more invasive liposuction or laser lipo treatment and do not have large amounts of fat to remove. You must also be aged over 18 and under 60. It is not suitable for anyone that is pregnant or breastfeeding, or suffering from liposdystrophy. It is most effective for men and women who have stubborn fat deposits but it is not suitable for people who are clinically overweight, or who have loose skin. BodyTite is the best option to tighten the skin.
What happens during the procedure?
Typically, two injection spots are required for each area being treated. Patients report good tolerance of the treatment and an anaesthetic solution is normally added prior to injection for greater comfort.
What are the side effects or risks?
- Bruising (should resolve in two weeks)
- Mild discomfort
What results can I typically expect?
A reduction in fat deposits can be seen after just one treatment, however more sessions are required to see the optimal effect.
The treatment will be repeated between two and eight times depending on the number of small pockets of fat tissue to be reduced - the injections are repeated every three to four weeks. The speed at which results are seen will vary depending on the stability of the cell membranes; younger patients are more likely to see results after a longer period.
