What Are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are caused when the skin rapidly stretches as a result of sudden growth or weight gain, for example during puberty or pregnancy. The stretching of the skin causes the middle layer of skin (known as the dermis) to tear; allowing the deeper skin layers to show through, forming stretch marks. Stretch marks look like little lines or streaks that go across the skin.

It is important to remember that stretch marks are extremely common, and they are harmless. Whilst they often can become less visible over time, some stretch marks are much more noticeable than others, leaving people feeling self-conscious in their own skin. Luckily there are a range of procedures designed to treat stretch marks! You can find out more about the stretch mark treatments our clinic offers below.

What Can Be Done To Remove My Stretch Marks?

The best results are obtained on stretch marks that are newer (less than 12 months). We offer a few different treatments at the Clinic that can improve the appearance of your stretch marks:

Fraxel Laser Resurfacing

This laser stretch mark removal treatment uses laser light energy below the surface of your skin, this creates microscopic wounds within the stretch mark. This encourages the dermis to heal, and stimulates collagen production in the skin. This fantastic treatment is great for fresh stretch marks that are still red/pink. We recommend a course of five to get the best results from this stretch mark removal treatment.

Dermaroller & LPG - Combined Treatment

Unlike Fraxel, this combined treatment is most effective on white stretch marks. The dermaroller uses a skin needling technique, which stimulates the skin's natural healing process. Whilst the LPG machine is known for its treatment of cellulite, it is excellent in increasing blood flow to the area and encourage the skin to regenerate and repair itself following on from the dermaroller. The result? Brighter, smoother skin that reduces the appearance of stretch marks.

Fractora Skin Resurfacing

Fractora uses a combination of microneedling and radiofrequency energy to increase the metabolism of the collagen-producing cells within the skin. This leaves the skin feeling tighter, brighter and more healthy, more importantly, it reduces the appearance of stretch marks. This minimally invasive stretch mark treatment requires little downtime, takes as little as 1 hour to carry out and produces long-lasting results.

PRP Injections

PRP is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure which makes use of the patient’s own blood mixed with a product to promote collagen growth underneath the skin. Loved by the likes of the Kardashians, this stretch mark treatment encourages the healing of stretch marks on the skin, leaving them looking much less noticeable. The treatment takes less than 1 hour to carry out, and results can be seen in under 24 hours.
