How Does Fractora Work?

There are two different ways that we can use fractora to tighten your skin, but both work based upon the same principle; tricking the brain to believe the skin has been damaged, which kicks the body’s autoimmune response into action. The first way we can do this is to make small punctures to the dermis (the layer of tissue below the epidermis) using microneedles, followed by pushing radiofrequency energy into the cells. Alternatively, we can locally heat the area of skin we wish to target, which makes the brain think the area has been damaged and therefore requires repair.

This repair process causes the collagen fibres in the skin to start working and increases the metabolism of the collagen-producing cells within the skin, which in turn creates more collagen fibres. Collagen is a protein within the body which provides structure to the skin, so when you increase collagen production, you help the skin to look and it's most healthy and youthful.

What Is Fractora Laser Resurfacing Used For?

Fractora laser skin resurfacing is used to provide improvements on skin wrinkles and tightness, to reduce laxity and make the skin tauter. Fractora can be used in areas that have fine or deep wrinkles, scars, stretch marks or discoloured red and brown skin tone.

Fractora is also an excellent anti-ageing treatment, by stimulating further production of elastin and collagen in our skin, which do tend to slow down in production as we get older. These proteins help to keep the skin looking and feeling smoother and plumper, whilst also keeping wrinkles at bay!

What Happens During The Procedure

Our leading surgeon, Dr Maini performs this procedure. An hour before your procedure, an anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area, and then again thirty minutes later, so there is no need to worry about the procedure being painful. Patients report a prickling sensation as the fractora procedure is conducted, and it takes no longer than 1 hour. Some patients will choose to have a Dermalux treatment afterwards to help with healing, but this is completely up to you. Vaseline is then applied and full aftercare instructions will be provided following the treatment.

Fractora Side Effects & Risks

There are very few risks or side effects when this treatment is used for deep skin tightening, making it a very low-risk procedure, especially compared to other surgical alternatives. You may experience redness persisting for a couple of days, however, this is totally normal. It is also not uncommon to experience swelling, minor bruising, temporary pigment changes and/or pimpling, however, if you do have any concerns you are always able to contact the clinic where we can advise the best course of action.

Fractora Laser Skin Resurfacing Results

Fractora RF is designed as a course of 2-3 treatments, and because of this, it's recommended you complete the course before determining the success of the treatment. Typically you will notice a deep tightening effect on the skin, and increased tautness around the jawline area, cheeks and neck. If required the cheeks could the be lifted further by using dermal fillers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I prepare for the treatment?

There is nothing, in particular, you need to do to prepare for your fractora treatment. We’ll talk everything through with you in detail when you come in for a consultation with us at the clinic.

How many fractora treatments will I need?

We recommend 2-3 treatments in order to see the best results. However, this may vary depending on your skin’s current state, and what you wish to achieve.

How long will the results from fractora last?

The results are generally extremely long lasting from this treatment.

When can I return to work?

This will depend on how sensitive your skin is, and how long your skin takes to heal. Generally, we would advise taking a few days off work to make sure your skin has properly begun the healing process.

Will fractora hurt?

Patients report a prickling sensation as the fractora procedure is conducted, rather than a painful sensation.

What are the benefits of radiofrequency energy?

By using RF energy, we are able to heat deep layers of the skin in a controlled way to maximise collagen production.

Can Fractora be combined with other treatments?

Yes! We can carry out treatments very close together so that we can most effectively achieve your desired results. We can chat through all the suitable treatments for you during your consultation.
