A Zenith Guide to Treating Sun Damaged Skin
As summer draws to a close, we’ve been looking back at this year and how fortunate we’ve been with the weather!
Whether you’ve been abroad this summer, or decided to stay in England, you’ll have had your share of the sun… But how do you know if your skin is sun damaged, and how can you treat it?
Over time, UV rays (A&B) can lead to wrinkles, dark spots, and other problem areas which can result in adding years to our appearance. Research shows that UV exposure is the reason behind 80% of all of our skin’s aging. Fortunately there are ways to help reverse effects of sun damage and problems caused by the sun. It isn’t possible to erase all of the damage, but there are some steps you can take for these common conditions:
Firstly, here at Zenith we offer a skin analysis treatment, completely free of charge which only takes around 15 minutes!
Many skin conditions originate from the deeper skin layers and are difficult to diagnose with the human eye. The Observ is a machine that we use at the clinic to examine skin layers not visible to the naked eye. This skin analysis machine exposes the underlying causes of such conditions using different light modes onto your skin and special light illumination technology, so your clinician can recommend an appropriate course of treatment.
You can see what happens during Observ Skin Analysis on our YouTube channel below:
After your skin analysis session, you will be shown a detailed photograph for each different light filter and your clinician will explain what each one means.
If you decide to go ahead with a skin treatment, following analysis, each time you come into Zenith we will reassess your skin with the Observ so you can see the results from your treatment working!
Even though most of us enjoy the sun, too much exposure can cause considerable damage to the skin. It can leave your skin with a thickened texture, wrinkles, deeper lines, patchy discolouration and sun spots. Also, as you become older, your skin starts to lose its elasticity and begins to sag and droop. Other signs of ageing skin are pigmentation, liver spots, enlarged pores and a rough texture.
If we do detect signs of sun damage, don’t be too alarmed! There are plenty of treatments available to help reverse sun damage, as well and skin products to take home with you.
Some of our treatments include:
- Chemical Peels
- Co2 Laser Resurfacing
- Dermal Fillers
- Dermalux LED Phototherapy
- Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation
- Fractora RF Laser
- Fraxel Laser
- PRP Injections
Most of the treatments above work by exfoliating the skin and removing dead or damaged skin cells and the top layers of the skin, to reveal fresh, new and regenerated skin underneath. However, PRP works differently as this rejuvenates the skin via injections rather than exfoliation techniques and Dermal Fillers reverse the signs of aging, such as sagging skin, caused from sun exposure and damage by filling out aging lines and wrinkles.

Whichever treatment most appeals to you and the outcomes of your skin analysis, it is most important that you protect your skin moving forwards to prevent further skin damage. Preventatives include an SPF no less than 30 and always keeping hydrated in the sun and the heat. But if you want a skin refresh - Zenith has you covered!
